Workshops and Training courses:

Below are the courses and workshops I offer to schools to help them identify and work successfully with children with Special Needs.

Identifying Special Needs

In this workshop I would help schools analyse student performance, behaviour and baseline data in order to identify any Special Educational Needs, including Gifted and Talented, Specific Learning Difficulties, ADHD, ADD, Autistic Spectrum Disorders and more.

We would also look at who to approach and how to move forward, once you suspect such issues.  Some may be easily managed within the school, others will need medical or psychological input.

Differentiation

Different students have different ways of learning, different abilities and and different speeds at which they process information.  This workshop looks at a variety of ways to differentiate worksheets and activities in order to provide the right level of learning across the class.

Remedial Help on a Shoestring -- what parents can do at home

Remedial teachers and various therapies can get very costly.  There are some simple, cost effective exercises and strategies that can be done at home.  They aren't quick fixes, and won't "cure" anything, but they will help, and they will not do any harm.

This workshop is aimed at parents and carers who really want to help their children, but do not have the budget for regular lessons.  There is a nominal charge to cover costs and materials.

Baseline assessments

Schools benefit from using baseline assessments that are standardized, detailed, yet simple to carry out, in order to assist in identifying children with Special Needs.

Understanding how to implement and analyse standardised tests as well as how to use this data will be covered in this workshop.

During the workshop, examples of a range of test will be used.  However, due to licencing issues, schools will need to purchase their own tests.

Individual Education Plans

Inclusive Education now requires more and more individualised education plans, and the evidence to show what is being done.  This workshop looks at how to set out an Individual Education Plan, set and implement SMART targets and provide strategies for teachers to use with students.

Personalised Workshops for Parents

As a parent, you often know more than you realise.  If you would like guidance on how to help your child, how to design a suitable curriculum or where to source material, please contact me.  All I need is some background information on your child, and an idea of what areas of teaching you would like guidance in.  From this, I will put together a practical pack of ideas that we can discuss and that you can take away and try with your child.
