What we stand for

WHAT WE STAND FOR:

  • Engaging, motivating and rewarding learners

  • Making learning relevant and transferable

  • Supporting a range of learning approaches and contexts

  • Promoting active learning and learning to learn

  • Celebrating the diversity of multi-talented young people

ABOUT ASDAN:

ASDAN is a UK-based education charity and awarding body that provides programmes to more than 30 countries and territories across the world. Our courses equip learners to thrive in 21st Century education, work and life.

Developed and managed by practitioners, ASDAN grew out of research work at the University of the West of England in the 1980s and was formally established as an educational charity in 1991.

Our purpose

ASDAN's charitable purpose is: “The advancement of education, by providing opportunities for all learners to develop their personal and social attributes and levels of achievement through ASDAN awards and resources, and the relief of poverty, where poverty inhibits such opportunities for learners.” A charitable fund offering grants is in place to support ‘the relief of poverty’.

Overview

ASDAN programmes are widely recognised by educators for providing an engaging curriculum that empowers students through personalised learning and choice. Our courses motivate and enhance learners' confidence, self-esteem and resilience. In addition, learners develop core skills in teamwork, communication, problem solving, research and self-management. Our programmes are suitable for young people and adults aged seven to 19 and over. Accreditation is available for 10 to 120 hours of activities.

From Entry to University levels and for all ages of learner, but with a particular focus on the 13-19 age group, ASDAN courses offer wide-ranging provision. The courses are delivered in a variety of settings, including secondary schools, Post-16 provision, special schools and primary schools, as well as in training and non-formal contexts.

Course types

ASDAN courses fall into three categories:

  • Curriculum Programmes: ASDAN offers a wide choice of flexible, activity-based programmes for learners working at a range of levels. Our courses offer imaginative ways of developing, assessing and certificating young people’s knowledge and skills development.
